Welcome back!!

Time: Be there by 2.20 PM
[First game back from a break, psyche ourselves up by being early folks]

Opponents: Stamford FC

Venue: Woodlands Sec (Astro)

New opponents and a new pitch to visit for the jokers this week. From what I have gathered, Stamford FC are somewhat like Ubai's team last season, Supernova. A difficult team to beat with capable players on the ball. We shall not take them lightly and in the mean time, let us build on a run if possible. Start fast, start strong. Lets go boys.

4th time's the charm

Yusof Ishak Sec, 1500 Hrs

YSOSRS FC 1 Team Intense 0

(Syafiqo x1)

Hard work gets you places. I guess that is one way of describing our match winner in our huge matchup against Team Intense. Having been doing his jogs during the week and also positively exclaiming about fighting for a place in the 1st 11, Syafiq duly rewarded the gaffer's faith in him by toe poking him a classic poachers attempt 12 minutes into our game.

What a goal and how befitting that he was the man to get it.

Starting the game at an Intense pace to try and unsettle our opponents, the sight of the Intense players scolding each other and getting at each other's throats was a sign that the jokers were sticking to the game plan well.

After threatening in the early exchanges without really placing a strong enough assault on the Intense goal, a mesmerizingly run down the wing by Santosh saw him beat his maker and a centreback in the process before smashing a delightfully inviting ball across goal. What followed next was just beauty. The gangly figure of our very own Yaya Toure sliding in at full speed before meeting the cross with his toe end. With the momentum he approached the ball at, a sweet connection meant that his shot was always going to be unstoppable. And so it proved as the ball hit the back of the net before the keeper could even dive and we were 1-0 up again. As it had been for the last 3 of 4 games with the very same opponents.

The question now was if we could maintain full concentration at the back, and also find a goal up front from somewhere.

Cue the moment for heroic defending and goalkeeping. On the one occasion in which Khai was beaten, Ronald was there to save the day. Bursting back at full pace, he successfully cleared the ball against the base of our own post as it bounced to safety, before smacking into the post himself. Fine margins there but it all went well for us.

2nd half and the game plan was to hold our own in midfield plus hopefully nick a crucial winning goal on the counter. That, we almost and really should have done with several chances spurned by our hardworking forwards whose application was spot on, but execution unfortunately failed to match it. Well of course, the heroic defending by our entire backline was certainly inspiring, coupled with the assured presence of Khai behind them and the clock ticking down ever so slightly, things were looking positive on a hot hot day in the west.

The defining moment of the game was probably not the one on one save Khai had to make but instead the double reflex save he did make after seeing a stinging long drive late. The image of him clawing the ball from almost on the goal line definitely did provide with the guys for more motivation to end the game on a high. That we did as we finished up the game 1-0 winners.

MOTM: Alot of possible candidates with Izwann & Habib taking turns to lead the line well, Syafiq for his industry and winning goal, Santosh and Wong for their penetrative runs, Law in particular who was effervescent in his approach to the midfield battle as well as our entire backline who held their own magnificently throughout the game. Yet, in my eyes, the 3 points would not have been possible without our stand in keeper, Khai and the boy duly gets the nod this week for some top notch saves and kicking as well. Splendid work khai! I'm sure the rest would be even more impressed should you turn out for us as a defender. Haha. Kudos!

Gaffers words: Pleased at the way we notched one over our rivals. Friendly off the pitch but a good competitive game on it. Cheers to the jokers for making the 3 points possible and it definitely puts us in good stead! Hopefully we start on a good run with plenty of tough games to come as well. Enjoy the weekend for now boys and for most of you, I'll see you at the friendly game next saturday. Y SO SRS!

Rolling back the years

Bedok North Sec, 1500 Hrs

YSOSRS FC 7 Standard Chartered FC 0

(Rudee x4, Dinietov x2, Izwann x1)

It has been a while. Almost a year and a half to be precise. However, the signs have been there as exemplified by his goalscoring form throughout our festive period friendlies. Finally though, our veteran winger has plummeted 4 goals for the team in a competitive situation as well.

The last time our man scored more than a couple in a competitive league game was on the 14th of August 2010. A long long time ago. And our flying winger who has repeatedly said that his playing career would be coming to a close at 26 years young (tsk!), rolled back the years today to the delight of all of his teammates. Showing awesome pace and clinical finishing, rudee deservedly brought home a bag full of goals today.

The first was scored by daddy dee after narrowly missing during a similar situation slightly earlier. This time round, a delightful lofted ball by Santosh found Dee in the clear and on the edge of the box, wasting no time at all, he rolled the ball calmly under the keepers feet to put us 1-0 to the good. Just rewards after much huffing and puffing in a wasteful first period.

The 2nd half was a whole different affair as Izwann who had been having a lethargic game up till then, continued his goalscoring form with some mesmerizing footwork that bamboozled 3 defenders before dispatching the ball into the roof of the net. Sweeeett...

Cue the time for our magician to work his magic, having just came on 10 minutes into the 2nd half, he sauntered into the SCFC penalty box by beating a couple of challenges with absolute ease. Having proved too much for his markers, Dinietov clipped home our team's 3rd goal, albeit off a slight deflection from the opposing defender. So much magic in those boots from our Mr fashionably late.

The 4th was undoubtedly our magicians goal. As some excellent work down the right by Habib found Dinie free just inside the opponents box of which he swept it home with deadly accuracy. Nice.

Then came the 5th of which I've finally got some memory of. Daddy Dee cut in from the right off one of our many counterattacks towards the end of the game before unleashing.... a not so fearsome shot!! Thing is, there remained enough in it to sting the fingertips of the beleaguered goalkeeper and trickled over the line. Irregardless of whether it was a lucky goal, our man certainly made it possible by trying in the 1st place.

The madness continued as our flying winger treated everyone including his own teammates to an awesome showing of prodding the ball. Evading 3 challenges with that poking skill, he eventually poked it around the keeper and into goal leaving everyone in awe. Devastatingly unorthodox, but sick ass nonetheless.

And of course, the icing on the cake was when our young men Bib took on the entire SCFC defence from the half way line in a stunning showing of pace and also his big ass before unselfishly laying it on the platter for daddy dee to tap home into an empty goal from 6 yards. Game set and match.

MOTM: Needless to say, daddy dee gets the nod. Not going to praise him further as he will tell me he wants to retire tomorrow.

Gaffers words: Good patient play as we rectified our mistakes in the 1st half well in the 2nd. Standout performers from dinie and weisheng with the rest doing what they had to do really well. Onwards to the next game boys!
