Bedok South Sec, 1500 Hrs
YSOSRS FC 2 St Andrews 4
(Izwann x1, Nat x1)
We were 2-1 up with 15 minutes to go. Yet despite the comfortable looking platform we had created for ourselves, the Jokers crumbled in the face of adversity. An OG by your dear gaffer and then a momentarily lapse of concentration in the backline, before a crazy sending off was compounded with yet another uncharacteristic mistake by our backline meant we went home on the losing end of a harsh 4-2 scoreline.
It was arguable that we deserved more from the promising position we were in. But based on the overall performance, the jokers probably got what we deserved. A very poor opening half an hour against the Scots saw us dominated against, as them kilted boy were in the mood from the get go and hit the frame of our goal at least twice. We were pretty much holding on for dear lives in the hope of riding out the storm.
However the break saw renewed hope for the Jokers having stolen a goal just before the end of the 1st half via our top scorer who banged in his 10th goal in as many starts. Having found ourselves in a really good position midway thorough the 2nd half as we went 2-1 up via Nat's stunning left finish from outside the box past the massive Sandro in goal for the Scots, it was frustrating the way we capitulated at the end.
Fyi, the St Andrews players were starting to get on each other's back at this point of time plus the Jokers were 1st to most of the 2nd balls at this stage of the game.
Well oh well, unfortunately it really has been the story of our season. So near yet so far on so many occasions. Refereeing decisions that have cost us at crucial moments during games. I can count at least 3 games in which refereeing decisions have proven pivotal.
Whatever the case, we try again next week as we always do. Chin up and heads up boys. We will continue to ride out this turbulent period together.
