Tense draw leaves the title hanging in the balance

Clementi Woods Sec , 1500 Hrs
YSOSRS FC 0 Naranja AFC 0

I allowed the result and the chaotic nature of the entire day to set in before i was finally able to see the light.

We may have not gotten the victory that we came for, but we still got a point. The equation is now simple, as long as Team Goat does not win their last game (draw or defeat against SOS), we will win the title. OR as long as they chalk up another 2 yellows to get a point deducted, we will prob win the title due to our massive goal difference as compared to theirs. Is it a long shot? Yeah perhaps, but its a hope. Lets hope that we can still win it even though it is out of our hands now!

Just so you guys know, we already have at the very least secured 2nd place which means medals for each of us and 1 free game from D2D.

Thanks to all who turned up today. Even though the aftermath of the game felt like a funeral, once the result has set in, all of the jokers should be proud of what we have achieved. Our team was formed less than a month before the current league started and all we played were 2 friendlies before we embarked on the journey into the unknown. 5 months later, we have secured our place in the top 2 just based on friendlies and matches with no training. It has been an amazing ride and i myself have made many excellent friends who share the same passion for football.

M.O.M for today: Everyone. From the guys who sacrificed and didnt play (WS & SQ), apologies and hopefully i gain your understanding that it was because we were chasing for that elusive goal and the win. To the goalkeepers (allan & phileo) who were outstanding between the sticks. The top notched and whole hearted defense (alaric, huijie, ronald, hizam, farhan and HG). The midfield that constantly closed our opponents down and gave their all to creating the opening for the goal that never came (Syafiq, dinie, Vic, LQ, law, wong, ahcool, rudee too for past efforts!) and finally to the man who plays with YSOSRS passion on his sleeves and has often carried the team forward with his bucket load of goals (Jufri). Not forgetting of course, the cheers for us and jeers for our opponents by the girlfriends (Cat, Aisyah, Fadilah, Tasha, Syazana) and finally the man who gave up his leg and a year out of the beautiful game for the cause of the team (jassie boy).

Thank you peeps for making our debut season a memorable one. It is a time for celebration and not feeling sorry for ourselves. We have done our best and let us all be proud of it. We can always look forward to potential new owners, new jerseys, a new experience in a new league with the same group of friends that all begins soon too.

Do try to keep next saturday night (2nd Oct) free alright, around 7-8pm. We will have a team gathering over dinner so that we can just sit down, relax and talk cock as we reminisce about the season and any other thing under the sun. Hopefully we should close the deal with our new owners during the week and we should be able to have our team gathering at SUFI restaurant. Stay tuned guys! Rest well!

League Match 16

Match Details: (25th Sep 10, Saturday)

Opponents:
Naranja AFC

Time: Be there by 230pm

Venue:
Canberra Sec (Link: http://www.espzen.com/pitches.asp?pitch=47) (Decent sized, grass pitch)

[For those not living in the north, do leave for the venue early!!!)

Attire: Blue jersey, black shorts and black socks. (Keepers: Our opponents are wearing orange)

Final game boys. The ball may be round, but lets do our best for the game and finish it with no regrets. I find it ironic that we played our 1st ever game there and won 7-0 on the day and right now we are gonna finish up our season at the very same venue. A good sign? Haha perhaps. Lets take it one day at a time.

P.S: Although it may be a big game, it is a bigger day for one of our fellow team mates. Share the love with Lianquan (LQ) as tomorrow will be his actual birthday itself. A perfect gift for the man would be the title. Let's try our best to make it happen peeps!

Expected Personnel:

Phileo, Allan

HG, Farhan, Ronald, Alaric, Huijie, Hizam, Jasmond

Zl, Wong, Ahcool, Vic, Ws, Syafiq, LQ, Mok

Emphatic Statement At the Theatre of Rings

Woodlands Ring Sec, 1500 Hrs
YSOSRS FC 4 Serangoon Utd 0
(Zl, Wong, Juf, Vic)

On a day which was labelled as a potential title deciding clash, the jokers were up against a team who was on red hot form going into the game. Serangoon Utd whom we last faced almost 2 months ago in a game which we triumphed 5-2 at Bedok South Sec, looked a much changed outfit as both teams prepared for the start of the game. A 7 match winning run since that game had seen their fortunes change as they were labelled as title favourites having beaten every single team in the league.

The game was firstly thankfully played on the huge green pitch of woodlands ring sec which probably suited our game more as the pace we possessed up front would relish the space. And so as we kicked off the game, the jangling nerves were put to a side as we focused on the job ahead.

The early exchanges of the game were quite simply like 2 boxing heavy weights carefully moving around in a calculated manner, conservative and tentative. However, the jokers broke forward in numbers and having seen wong miss with a one on one chance early on, took the lead as birthday boy, law pounced on a defensive mix up and having calmly sorted out his footing and also the attentions of fellow goal machine, juf... finished clinically and put the boys in blue 1-0 up with 18 minutes gone. Having said that, the jokers were wary of taking early leads having suffered the heartbreak of leading against Goat 4 weeks back and yet succumbing 3-2 eventually.

The boys maintained full concentration and with the defensive line well marshaled coupled with a keeper in uncompromising mood, the jokers put in a near flawless display at the back. With syafiq the man mountain chasing and heading everything in the middle of the park as well... The foundations for a good performance were all set as Rudee the man who was finding joy down the right, sprang the offside trap and laid a perfect pass to our goal machine in the middle to slot home. We would probably have placed our allowance/earnings for the week on him scoring and yet he scuffed it, thankfully into an onrushing wong-ster who smashed home the ball from 3 yards with 5 mins on the clock to go in the half.

So we were 2-0 up at the half, having played flawlessly and stuck well to the game plan of remaining solid at the back and expressive in attack.

The 2nd half was played out in predictable fashion as our opponents came in hard and furious as they tried desperately to claw one back. However, we were soon gifted the perfect gift as one of our opponents got sent off. 2-0 up and a man advantage soon became 3-0 as Mok planted a freekick from just within the opponents half straight onto the head of the goal machine Juf who as expected this time, finished the move and probably the game. A customary goal for the man who seems to score all the time.

The icing on the cake was soon contributed by Vic who took his opportunity well after a swift break from AhCool. The 2 combined to great effect for they gave all related to the jokers much to cheer and laugh about. 4-0 was how it ended.

Man of the match: The entire team played well. Especially the defense and the keepers. We stuck to our roles and executed them perfectly. Once again, it may not have been pretty football at times, but we did what was necessary. Well done guys. However, a standout performer and thus the M.O.M for me was our captain and the player of the month for August, Hizam. Aided ably by an excellent defensive cast, Hizam was an immovable object at the back. The clean sheet was just rewards for a good display. Well done bro. Special mention to Syafiq whom i personally felt made the difference in the engine room too! Top class performance!

Thoughts: Couldn't be happier with everyone's commitment. Special thanks to wong for appearing despite having trained so hard with SMU & Law who played on despite having just recovered from a bout of flu. You definitely did score the best goal of the day of which even the messiah himself, lionel messi would have been proud of. A trickling shot that sapped the morale out of the opponents. (P.S: This is my birthday present to you. Happens once a year so hope you cherish it! Haha)

And also basically the rest of the team who played their hearts out. Cant thank u guys enough. Apologies that i cannot go on and on about praising you guys in this short space. Know that i appreciate all the sacrifices can already. As u guys can see at the top, goat won as well. We have 1 way to make sure that we have 2 hands on the trophy when our last game comes along, and that is to beat naranja. Its been a long season, both emotionally and physically. Whatever the case, let us give our all in our final game. Kudo's to the jokers.
And im dedicating this win specially to jassie boy who now struggles to remove his pants. All for the sake of the team. ;)

P.S: Drop me a sms once u guys have transferred the money ok? Thanks. Accnt: 170-21920-1. Savings.

Operation Date set for Jassie boy

Hey peeps, as most of the guys who were in the team since the start of the season should have known, Jasmond suffered a painful injury to his knee in our 1st game against SOS. He was expected to form part of a very stable defense due to his unique ability to be a left footed left back, however the demoralising injury has robbed us of his services for at least a year.

This injury was sustained in May and after having had his operation date postponed at least once due to the inefficiency of the hospital, he will finally be having his ACL reconstruction operation on his left knee this coming Thursday, 16th Sep at Changi General Hospital. Just so you know, he suffered a complete tear to his anterior cruciate ligament and further tears to his meniscus i believe.

For those who would perhaps like to visit him as i'm not too sure of his operation timing, u can just drop me a sms on the day itself, for those who will not be able to visit him, just share the love by leaving a comment under this post. It can start from today and let the love flow man!

After his operation, the rehabilitation process will be long and tough and a safe estimate would be 6 months before he returns to the shape that he was before he got injured. Even then, the psychological phobia would take yet more time to get over. Do help him out when he returns and like i said, share the love peeps, guys and girls are all welcome!

Diadora Jerseys for our new season!

Hi peeps, Rudee who will be going overseas to Phuket within the next 2 weeks (after our Serangoon game) for holiday and he has kindly volunteered his services to purchase jerseys in bulk for the team from thailand itself. The prices for purchasing directly from thailand will make the jersey set alot cheaper. This jersey will be made our home jersey for the new season. While we will make our current blue jersey the away one.

Okay guys, the results of the poll are as follows: According to the guys who actually voted, the results were tabulated as such. Keep in mind that each person is entitled to 2 votes. Only the choices with more than 2 votes are listed. Sorry to the rest eh.

DA 1592 -UW (Roma) (9)

DA 1591 -WR (White/Red) (7)

DA 1591 - PA (Pink) (6)

DA 1592 - WR (White/Red) (4)

Keeper -

DA 1592 - AN/ YA

As such, the winning design goes to the Roma lookalike jersey! We will try to see if we can pair it up with matching black shorts and black socks. I will leave the decision to Rudee himself as to whether or not the quality of the shorts and socks are worth it. IF, the roma jersey is not in stock in phuket, we will then go down the list and get the white jersey instead.

And for the keepers (Phileo & Allan), it would be better if u guys get the yellow jersey set (DA 1592 YA). Once again, since it would be best to get a full set of matching shorts and top for the keeper outfit, it would be subject to availability over in Phuket. I will leave it up to you to confirm with me if you would like to purchase them as it is optional for you guys as compared to the outfield ones. For sianwei, it would be best for you to just get the outfield jersey since u are a full fletched right back now!

Thus, we will be collecting $30 in cash on the day whereby we play Serangoon Utd which would be next saturday, 18th Sep. If we simply just get the jersey top, any extra cash will go towards paying for our new league season's fees. For those who do not turn up for the game next saturday and still wana purchase a jersey, u will have to transfer to me (mok) the cash. This will be settled after i get the attendance for next week's game.

I will post up on the blog again if there are any changes. Till then, have a good holiday weekend ahead guys. Cheers.

YSOSRS Player Of The Month: August

To quote the great manager Sir Alex, YSOSRS finds itself at the time of the season that is infamously known as the 'squeaky-bum time'. More often than not, teams who are battling for places throughout the table tend to only have 1 thing on their mind, and that is to put in a performance good enough to secure the points needed for the team.

With that, having secured a highly impressive 4 wins and a single defeat in the last 5 games, YSOSRS have more or less steadied the ship after having had to endure a series of wretched results mid-way through the season with 3 consecutive losses being recorded. We are back at the top of the heap now with a mere 2 games left to go in the season. The equation is as simple as such. 2 games, 2 wins and we will be in the promise land.

This series of impressive victories in the month of august is without doubt as a result of the reappearance of this man in our ranks. Not only is he strong but he is also an astute reader of the game and also the calming influence within the team. Definitely one man that every team needs. A proper player, an old fashioned no nonsense defender.

Therefore, YSOSRS FC's Player of the month for August goes to..... El capitain, HIZAM!!
Very much the Nemanja Vidic of the team, the captain has gone about his business in unerring fashion. Forever organising the backline and driving the team on with some solid defending at the back. It has to be said that, the decision to acknowledge his performances comes after considering the fact that he was not only forever present and tough tackling, but also that he was fasting like all the other muslim guys in the team, during these matches. This makes his performances all the more impressive and thus this award totally justifiable.

Being the captain of the team, hizam whose character tip toes relatively towards the introverted and shy side whilst off the field, is an imposing figure whilst on it. His teammates constantly look to him as a positive influence and it is without doubt that he has led by example. Although footie is a team game, the captain has indeed made himself an indispensable player to have within the ranks.

Thoughts by the gaffer: From day one, Zam has impressed with his ability to lead and be vocal whilst on the field. The fact that he takes his responsibility seriously and places them squarely on his shoulders every saturday while playing leaves me with nothing but praise for the man. Without wanting to go overboard with my praise, i will have to say that the man has firmly established himself as a vital cog in the way the team plays and i hope to have him available for not only our remaining 2 big games, but also in future as our team progresses. Well done on your stellar performances throughout August and I hope that it continues on for Sept. Hopefully, this will not be the only silverware that you lift in the next 3 weeks! Kudos to you bro.
