YSOSRS FC 6 SOS 1
(Law x1, Juf x3, Ronald x1, Dinie x1)
As mentioned in the title, the plan was simple for the game against SOS. 3 points was at the forefront of out minds, however this was not before we were thrown a spanner in our plans when our opponents requested to borrow phileo for the 1st half as they were down to the bare minimum of 7 before the start of the game. After some discussion, we decided to carry on the game with one of our keepers filling in goal for SOS. This probably contributed to the awkward atmosphere at the start of the game.
So here are the goals:
1-0: A left footed in swinging cross by mok arrowed straight into the the danger zone and law subsequently carried on his goal scoring revival form by converting with a simple header from less than 3 yards of the opponents goal. 1-0 with 5 mins gone.
2-0: Goal scoring machine, Juf, converts a penalty and banishes the demons of a missed penalty just last week against Coke. A sweetly struck shot gave the SOS stand-in keeper no chance. Special mention to law who had embarked on a mesmerizing run from the left flank and his burst into the opponents box was unfairly halted by the SOS defender which resulted in the penalty.
I believe that our defenders who were positioned on the goal line during the SOS corners successfully cleared the ball off our goal line twice in a row and one of it eventually led to our 3rd goal. Good stuff boys!
3-0: Juf then continues his amazing goal scoring form by pouncing on a long clearance after an SOS corner. After out muscling the covering defender, Juf once again gave the keeper no chance with a superb finish into the bottom left corner of the opponents goal.
3-1: Our opponents who were fighting tooth and nail despite their numerical disadvantage pulled one back as the Jokers slackened n were hustled into losing possession on numerous occasions. This eventually led to a well taken strike from the SOS winger.
It finished 3-1 with the boys in blue leading at the break.
4-1: With a potentially nervy 2nd period in the works after comfortably being in the lead and dominating the game for large periods of the 1st half. Juf probably put the game beyond doubt as once again he replicated his 2nd goal by chasing down a lofted ball over the top and AGAIN outmuscling his marker and finishing with aplomb.
5-1: Mr versatile, Ronald then nets himself his first league goal of the season as an in-swinging corner from mok once again finds the man standing right in front of the goal with the easy task of nodding it home. Great team work to get this move sorted out and of course the man was all smiles having craved a goal in the league for a long time.
6-1: With the result no longer in doubt, the icing on the cake was delivered by our very own Dinie-tov. A break by the Jokers saw them attacking at pace and with the SOS defenders in sixes and sevens, the perfect true ball saw the languid attacking midfielder turn on the turbos and outpace his marker, racing on to the ball and very nearly running all the way into the opponents goal before finishing it off. There was lots of joy and shouts of ecstasy from the boys in blue as we knew how close the man has come to scoring on many an occasion and also how hard this goal scoring drought in the league has damaged his confidence. Well done dude, and that burst of pace was indeed impressive. Hopefully this spurs u onto a run of goals in the last 2 games!
M.O.M: Jufri. Needless to say, the man who was desperately unlucky not to score against Coke last week, redeemed himself and helped himself to a trio of goals. 2 of his goals showed his entire repertoire of pace, strength and composure as he put SOS to the sword. Well done bro.
On the other hand, I also personally felt that Ronald stood out with his excellent marshaling of the defense in the absence of our captain. And finally to the man who continues to amaze me with his performances at right back despite being a keeper by nature. Sianwei was perhaps the most irritating defender that our opponents had to face this afternoon as his unorthodox style of tackling at every opportunity gave them no chance down his flank in the 2nd half. Loving the cockroach move sianzzzz!
Thoughts: I agree with the guys that the game was not pretty. The pitch was small and narrow with hardly any room. It did not help that our opponents constantly hassled and tried to break down our play with some hearts on their sleeve defending. There are times where we can win with pretty footie, however i will pass this off as an occasion with the result being of utmost importance as we are at the business end of the season and thus we did well in coming through this game with a professional performance. With another 5 goals added to our goal difference, we have put ourselves in a good position and we should be proud of that!
Take heart from that guys. 2 more games and we will be done with our first season ever together. Lets go out there and enjoy the remaining 2 games!
*Take note that there will be NO friendlies next week as we will have majority of our guys occupied with the hari raya festival and also some school events. Lets rest well and regroup the week after next! Serangoon United awaits us. Do get ready for that peeps.
