Redemption begins now

Match Details: (2nd Apr 2011, Saturday)

Time: 2.20 PM (Be there. Be prepared)

Opponents: Arizen FC (Current Position: 8th)

Venue: Temasek Secondary School (Astro)

Attire: Yellow Top, Black Shorts and Black Socks

P.S: SUFI, we had at least 3 soccer balls in our inventory which does not include the one that WS brought for the last game. If its in the trunk of your boot or somewhere in your house, please sound out and bring it every sat. I require your assistance in being responsible for the piece of equipment you are holding onto for the team. Money from the team fund was used to purchase these balls and you contributed to the team fund too. If we are losing balls at the rate of 1 every 2 games, it just does not make sense to keep buying them. Do assist me in this alright. Many thanks.

I will be out there giving my best. Hope to see you guys alongside me doing the same. Nuff said.

Ups and the Downs

I had this feeling
That this could leave us reeling
But that aura of invincibility
Made it feel like we've got some sort of special ability

Rampant and unstoppable
The mental edge we've got now leaves us culpable
Whatever the case
We ain't gonna give no face

Having the element of hope
Had provided our game with another dimension
It could be a false sense of security
But undeniably,
It made our confidence shoot up to infinity

A long sequence of victories
Had made us deem success as mandatory
Oddly, it always felt as if luck was with us
And it was never going to leave till dust.

Fate works in such funny ways though
A process of learning so they say
But a painful lesson on display

And one fine day
They all contrive to haunt us
For the many instances where they had failed to do us

Luck and hope took an off day
Leaving us to fend for our stay
Mere mortals as they would say
We had as much of a chance of seeing snow in May.

So now we pick up the pieces of our shattered ego
Finding answers as we go
There is to be no easy way
For failure looms large like the day

Only the brave can find their feet again
Leaving the rest wallowing in a heap of 'What's that again?'
Self-pity has become a taboo
Like only a fool can do.

It is time to go back to the basics
Where we formulated our classics
Fill yourselves with hope
Cause the journey back to the top is going to be dope.

Our defeat provided me with some inspiration to complete my stupid poem assignment. Just thought i'd share it with you guys. It will probably never ever be a classic but im pretty sure it will provide you with decent read should you struggle with study saturation points during the week. Enjoy!

SUFI turns 1!!

Hey boys, putting the defeat behind us, we still have cause for celebration for the weekend!! 27th of March 2010 was the day on which YSOSRS was officially formed and played our 1st friendly game in our history! For the newer guys in the team, we triumphed 7-0 in that game with hot shot Juf grabbing a hattrick and dinietov helped himself to a brace as well. That was the 1st time 90% of us had seen each other but the way we adapted so well probably proved the potential we had together as a team.

The 'pioneering' members from that game who are still currently at the team were:
Farhan, Hizam, Huijie, HG, Mok, Law, Ws, Wong, LQ, Syafiqo, Dinietov, Juf

Time has flown by and it has been an awesome ride with you boys indeed. The defining moments in our short history which include a runners-up position in our D2D season where we were pipped at the finishing line by a mere point to the landmark sponsorship deal with Huseyin of SUFI restaurant and then to the smashing friendly game that we played at the Marina Bay Floating Platform, we have indeed created plenty of memories together as a team.

The newer additions that followed our pioneering members that have proven to be huge hits with the team range from Phileo, Sw and Allan de Sar in goal, to Ronald, Syafiq, Alaric, Jasmond and Jason in defense and finally Yasin, Daddy Dee, Vic, the always balanced Ahcool and of course our pocket wizard Mahdi. The team continues to grow and although the prize of being champions eludes us at the moment, the strides that we have taken within such a short period of time have been immense.

Needless to say, arguably the most significant piece of history occurred when we snatched 3 points from our huge rivals, FMFC in our recent meeting with them. The events of the day just summed up what SUFI is all about. Hardwork, dedication and a never-say die spirit. These are the basics elements that we SUFI boys possess and with hope, we will continue making use of them to create more wonderful memories in the near future. This team is here to stay boys. A year has flown by and we continue to function at optimum level as a unit. Let us make this 2nd year a fulfilling and memorable one as well!

A personal shoutout to the guys who continue to dedicate their weekends for the cause of the team, do know that your efforts are much appreciated and although not everything can go our way all the time, the sacrifices that you guys make in order to make this team whole will bear fruit sooner rather than later. Have belief boys. And I hope a smile returns to your faces after reading this post. Till next week, lets go!

Hello earthlings, we are back again!

So where do we start. Apologies and frustrations aside, there is probably hardly anything else that we can talk about from the game. I wish we knew that a off day was coming around and perhaps we needed one after our exertions in the past few games. Unfortunately for us, it all contrived to happen on a day where 3 points were still up for grabs.

Well AhCool asked me to cut out the antics and to deliver a damning report of our performance, so here it is. We were simply not good enough for 3 points today. Football is all about cliches, and we can only hope that as seen from today, there will be no easy games left in the division which would apply to FMFC and TeamCuzz as well. We gotta hope for favors from the other teams but at the same time there is a need to bounce back from a defeat.

We huffed and puffed and pushed ourselves. Well, at times we panicked a little too much and was all at sea. But hey, yes it is a defeat and granted that it can be said that we shot ourselves in the foot after setting it all up so nicely with our past wins, but for good or for worse, we have another game coming up immediately next week and I believe there is no need for me to motivate you guys for that. We are in the final stretch now peeps. I keep harping on it and it may be naggy to some but we win as a unit, and lose as one. Lets pick ourselves up for one final push to the end ah!!

And a friendly banter to our friends from FMFC, we hope you guys drop gifts along the way for us so that we continue to have a shot as well. Cheers! :D

One game at a time...

Match Details: (26th March 2010, Saturday)

Time: Be at the venue by 220 pm as I noticed that the school gates normally do not open as early as compared to stadium venues.
[Guys who have been really late recently, please be there at least before kickoff and with sufficient time to warm up. Your co-operation is much appreciated!]

Opponents: Real Ale Madrid FC

Venue: Temasek Sec School (Astro)

Attire: Yellow top, black shorts and black socks (Do not forget your shin pads!)

P.S: The peeps holding onto the balls. Do bring them this Saturday as the balls seem to have performed a disappearing act again. Thanks!

10 games down, 6 more to go. As you SUFI boys probably should be aware of by now, we have been excellent up till this point. If not for the form of FMFC, we would probably be in a more comfortable position but whatever the case, we are technically still a point behind FMFC if they win all their games in hand (which obviously isnt beyond them). The best thing we can do is to take the games as they come every week and not look too far ahead. Attempting to garner 3 points every week will be essential ah.

Our opponents for the weekend are RAMFC who have seen a change in fortunes recently having picked up fine wins over Dynamites (3-1) and Redsaga (4-0). A 3-3 draw with Supernova underlined their abilities and our big victory over them in the 1st leg is now truly just a thing of the past. Most of us should know that RAMFC are a physically imposing team and playing on a relatively small field in TMS, it would certainly not be a stroll in the park.

Be prepared for a tough afternoon of which we will have to call upon our battling qualities and also be clinical in front of goal. Efficiency will be the order of the day. As with any team that are on such a good run of form, complacency will naturally be an issue. Thus, im warning the team not to expect an easy run till the end and to try and avoid making mistakes. We saw just how sluggish and lethargic we were at the start of the season and obviously, a repeat of that is not needed. The concentration and effort we have shown to bring us to this point has been outstanding, let's work together to keep it going boys.

And if you guys need more psyching up, this was the venue where we succumbed to that heart-breaking 3-1 defeat to Cuzz in the dying moments of our 1st game with them.I hope you have not forgotten the 'funeral-like' atmosphere after that game. Let's attempt to end the weekend with smiles rather than gloomy faces this time round. See you boys there!

A Game of Warriors and Immovable Objects

Tanjong Katong Sec, 1500 Hrs
SUFI FC 1 TeamCuzz 0
(Law x1)

It seems as if it has become a custom for us to play our games under the pouring rain on a weekly basis now. For the 3rd game in as many weeks, the boys clad in sexy bright yellow outfits had to slog their guts out on the field whilst the rain pounded down. Tough tough conditions against tough tough opponents.

It was a game with much controversy and at times, we rode our luck as we had to resort to last ditch sliding challenges and out of this world saves from Allan to keep our opponents at bay. Having to deal without the presence of our ever assured captain was like Manchester united playing with Vidic and most of you should know how Brown has fared thus far when he has been called upon for the Red Devils. Thank god for us, Syafiq ain't no slouch and he fitted in alongside Lucio well and they both fought like lions along with the aid of a very competent defensive set up.

After much hoofing and huffing whereby Cuzz had the better of the early exchanges, we broke the deadlock a couple of minutes before the break after some quick thinking by our pocket wizard who played a one-two from a deadball situation with yas and burst into the box. Facing a couple of lunging challenges and the enormous frame of the keeper bearing down on him, the man fired a shot that bounced off the keeper and into the air. Standing right in front of goal and like kids awaiting a christmas gift, Law and Syafiqo were in prime position to finish the rebound. Lucky for us, they sorted out who was gonna get to the gift first as law nodded the ball home to provide us with a priceless lead. 1-0 at the break it was. *Fiq, the next one that falls from the air will be for u Cause law cant play next sat. haha*

Some minimal reshuffling at the break and the boys were thrown back into the battlefield as once again the rain came down hard on us. Credit to our wags and the guys who were off the field for braving the elements in cheering for the team. Well, perhaps not much to report about on the 2nd half as it was a case of sitting back and soaking the pressure that Cuzz exerted on us. In a footballing sense, we had our backs to the wall but we knew that we had the advantage with the 1 goal lead.

Cue music *Flying without wings* and the last 25 minutes was a case for how high and far he could fly in order to repel the threat of the Cuzz attacks. Allan De Sar certainly did break more than a few hearts as some of his saves were out of this world calibre. Amazing stuff from the grand old dad of the team and his agility certainly put some of us to shame. Well, we did have a moment of madness when Law was sent off but we shall not go into details here as the result on the day was all that mattered. 1-0 it was as the final whistle blew and a sweet 3 points for the loss we suffered earlier in the season and another clean sheet for our top notch defense.

MOTM: After much praising, it is hard to look beyond our ever reliable man between the sticks whom certainly was the difference between 3 points and perhaps 1 or even none for us on the day. He did fly without wings and what more can I say. Thanks Allan and take it easy alright, bask in the limelight of this smashing performance by not scolding us about our inaptness in setting up the wall for just this week alright. Hahaha. And guys! Set up the wall fast next time ah...!

We are on a roll at the moment guys. 5 goals scored and 1 conceded in our 3 consecutive games against arguably the closest rivals in our division. 3 wins for that matter as well and I have to thank you guys for the fight and graft that you have shown in order to obtain the results. Fantabulous! Have a good break for the next couple of the days and then we begin another battle next week. We have built the foundations for a strong title run but if we are to let our guard down now thinking that the rest of the league will roll over, do know that it will bite us in the ass FOR SURE. 6 more cup finals in the coming weeks and I would like you guys to give your full commitment until the season ends. We can take our breaks thereafter alright. This is only the beginning.

The guys who have seen much reduced playing time recently, I thank you for your understanding thus far and do know that I will do my very best to hopefully change the situation in the coming weeks.

P.S: And a special song dedication to our eccentric one. Our very own mr reliable. ;)

The Biggest One of them All

Match Details: (19th March 2010, Saturday)

Time: Be at the location by 2 - 215pm LATEST.

Opponents: TeamCuzz FC

Venue: Tanjong Katong Sec (Grass Pitch)

Attire: Yellow top, black shorts and black socks (Do not forget your shin pads!)

I guess most of the guys can still remember how we crashed to a truly humbling defeat against the very same opponents earlier in the season. 3-1 on the day where we conceded 2 goals in the final 8 minutes to succumb to our 1st defeat in the league.

If you have forgotten just how sucky that feeling was, check out the link to the post-match report: http://sufifootballclub.blogspot.com/2011/01/tough-defeat-to-stomach.html

The fantastic victories over FMFC and Supernova may have been smashing team performances and thoroughly deserved victories in my humble opinion. However if any one of us truly believe that Cuzz will fear us for those results and thus roll over, think again. Now that there is a ray of hope for all who harbour intentions of overtaking the big boys FMFC, Cuzz will definitely be jumping at the chance to come at us hard and fast boys. Forget the victories of the past weeks as the upcoming weeks will prove to be a greater test of our willpower.

Time to call upon that awesome little thing called team spirit and to also make use of the momentum that we have gradually been generating. We have seen over the last couple of games, instances in which the sufi boys have exerted every last ounce of energy and fighting spirit in them to chase a lost cause or battle for a ball that they were never favoured to win. Do know that such actions inspires the rest of your team-mates and now once again, the question of standing up to be counted for the sake of the team is asked of you. If u ever feel tired, do know that there is a team-mate there to back you up. Never forget. It is not war, but it will be a battle fer sure. Cya there boys and be on time. We had only 12 guys last time round at kick-off time and that is unacceptable. We need no reminding of how early prep can be beneficial to the team. So let's go.

P.S: Anyone who is expected to miss the game, do contact me to let me know asap aite. Thanks!

Part II of the trilogy...

Jurong Stadium, 1700 Hrs
SUFI FC 2 Fake Madrid FC 1
(Yas x1 pen, Dinietov x1)

I'm sure that most of you associated with the team must have heard about the result much earlier and while i maintained a face of relative calm after the game, do know that I was literally grinning from ear to ear within me. Almost a year on, what started off as YSOSRS FC and now SUFI FC has fought many battles. However the battle that we won today was probably the highlight of the year so far. 3 crucial points up for grabs, having to cope without out top marksmen and number 1 custodian plus it was a game against formidable opponents in the shape of FMFC. In truth, the stakes couldn't be higher.

And so the stage was set at the grand old dame of Jurong where we have had our fair share of ups and downs results wise. A customary west side shower upon our visit there meant that the field was waterlogged in certain areas and in some ways, the conditions certainly did favour our style of game. This meant that we had help in stopping the free-flowing tippy tappy (?) football that FMFC normally played which gave us much confidence before the game.

After a 15-20 minute sparring spell where both teams operated warily of each other, the sufi boys struck 1st after a defence splitting pass from me [sorry guys, i had to mention my only contribution of the day ;) ] and it found a marauding law bursting his guts down the left towards goal. In an incident which divided opinions, we got the opinion which mattered on the day as law was adjudged by the man in black to have been hauled down in the penalty box. A penalty early in the game and the perfect way to strike first blood. Stepping up, fabreyas sent the keeper the wrong way with a finish of real confidence. 1-0 up but with plenty of the game left to play. Whatever the case, it certainly did give us greater belief.

With the game played out mostly in the middle third of the field, it was inevitable that clashes were aplenty as both sides fought hard to reign supreme in the middle. As the half time whistle blew, the boys trudged off knowing that there was a greater tide to expect from our adversaries on the day. So it was, 1-0 at the half to the boys in yellow.

On a day where there were plenty of negative news on the playing personnel front with late pullouts due to illnesses and etc, the reappearance of our pocket wizard in the 2nd half definitely did provide the guys with a much needed psychological lift.

Events of the 2nd half were pretty much the same as that of the 1st. This time however, the tenacity level was much higher from our opponents but in truth the boys did stay disciplined and compact which restricted them to few clear cut chances. On the other hand, we ourselves registered the odd half chance in our sporadic forays into the opposing half. One in particular was from midfield maestro WS who launched a 40 yard freekick straight at goal which was deemed as dangerous enough for a palm over the bar by the opposing keeper.

This was followed by one such incident where our pocket wizard took on the 2 centre backs of FMFC in a foot race before he was arguably hauled down just as the target loomed large in front of him. The sufi boys did finally get the much needed 2nd goal that allowed us to relax a little. A long deep punt down-field by Heiqal (our stand-in custodian of the day, amazing lad) was misjudged by the opposing centerback which opened up a window of opportunity for Dinietov. Having fought selflessly for the cause of the team in terms of holding up the ball all through the game, he was due that stroke of misfortune and the man accepted it gleefully with both hands. Holding off the challenge of the CB, Dinietov set off on a 30 yard run towards goal before he calmly sent the fans into ecstasy with a sublime finish that was deserving of his efforts for the day.

The game did end nervously for us as FMFC grabbed a late goal soon after and threatened to share the spoils. Thank god for us, we held on and the final whistle soon came.

MOTM: Once again, everyone was amazing in their roles today. However, it has not escaped my attention, the effort that a certain individual has been putting into our weekly games in recent weeks. Dinietov was the undeniable spark today as he put his body on the line all through the game, fighting hard for every ball and also leaving us shell shocked with some dazzling footwork that mesmerized his markers. The man would probably write this off in his usual nonchalant self but it was a pleasure my man. 2 goals in 2 games against 2 of our title rivals. A perfect reward for the hardwork and credit where it is due, he was certainly the man of the moment for the day. Keep it up doood!

Apologies that this is getting abit too long so i will try to keep this part short. We are on a deeply satisfying run at the moment boys and although FMFC are still in the hot seat if they can win all their remaining games, take pride in the scale and manner of our victory. We had the element of luck in certain decisions admittedly but we also fought hard and covered each others ass throughout the game. We won as a team today and like we did last week, i can only salute you guys for making it oh-so-sweet.

Enjoy the feeling for the weekend boys as you guys deserve it. However come the turn of the week, time to refocus on the task ahead as Teamcuzz lies in wait. We may have overcome arguably the best team in the division at the moment in todays clash, however it counts for nothing if we put our feet up and think that the title has been sewn up. The game today was worth 3 points just like any others and lets work hard together to try replicate it each week.

Cheers boys and like Rudee said in his facebook status, I'm loving the team spirit. Thanks =D

Up next: We know who

Match Details: (12th March 2010, Saturday)

Time: Be at the location by 4pm please.

Opponents: Fake Madrid FC
[Link: http://www.espzen.com/teamsdiv.asp?teamno=720&leagueNo=83]

Venue: Jurong Stadium

Attire: Yellow top, black shorts and black socks (Do not forget your shin pads!)

A game that probably needs no further introduction and one which has caused our excitement levels to grow gradually over the last few weeks as the date draws nearer. It would be a travesty to write this off as just another game for we all know that the recent stunning form of FMFC has made this clash of the titans take on even more significance in the title race. Unlike a certain great one from the red half of manchester, a pre-match or even a post match lock down on any comments of the game will not be enforced. We play, and whatever the result, we leave knowing that we have tried our very best and of course, you guys are free to release any comments that you may so desire. ;)

The game will be watched with intent by other teams in the league and it provides the perfect platform for each and every sufi player to stand up and be counted. We know much about the amazing players that FMFC possesses but as frightening as their run is, do know that we are no slouches ourselves. Desire would be the key. Show that you want it more, and just like how kuyt scored thrice from within 5 yards of the goal yesterday, it could be the difference between 3 points and none. Cya folks at the stated time on saturday. Its a late kickoff at an awesome venue. Enough said there. Lets go.

FYI, for the guys who used to have both my handphone numbers, please note that im only using 8127 8493 from now on. Thanks! And if you cannot make it for the game this saturday, please have the courtesy to personally inform me of your likely absence. Much appreciated.

Just follow law...

*Pillar of strength in btw the sticks*

*E look on e faces of the guys behind tells u what they think of him*

*shag ballz shag ballz*

Chestnut Drive Sec, 1500 Hrs
SUFI FC 2 Supernova FC 0
(Dinie x1, Ronald x1 pen)

Having lived in a country like singapore for more than 2 decades now, we know that everything around here encompasses around a certain rule. Today, in the 1st part of our hattrick of biggies, the law was laid down in the most emphatic way by the man who can lay acclaim to providing all rules with its name of 'law'. *apologies for the far-fetched description. Just dramatizing ;) *

A decent sized squad turned out at the crazily ulu Chestnut Drive sec which had several of the guys poking fun at the names of the streets there. A real nutter indeed. Whatever the case, we had one objective and also knew what was at stake. The reverse fixture earlier in the season with Supernova had finished 0-0 and left a rather bitter taste as it ended in unfortunate circumstances when it was washed out half way through the 2nd half.

Honestly, the field today was hardly suitable for a game of such magnitude but I guess both teams were severely handicapped by the size of it and thank god for us, Supernova were the team that struggled slightly more due to their style of play. Against a free-flowing tippy tappy team, our sufi boys were able to come away winners in a game of cat and mouse as the boys in yellow closed down supernova from every possible angle.

Once again our defense was in top form and also shielded expertly by the guys chosen specifically to do a job in the middle. We did well in quelling the threat of the star opposing playmaker and in fact had several half chances and also clear cut chances to increase the scoreline.

1-0: After some orgy activities in the middle of the pitch, Vic who had just came on found himself in some space and time on the ball in the final third of the field. Playing a perfect through pass that took the covering supernova defender out of the equation, it found dinietov who had been working hard up front for most of the game accelerating to reach it. The man then proceeded to provide an outrageous finish that had the subs bench cooing in excitement. A perfect dink over the keeper and how fitting that the magician opens his account in a big game in such a nonchalant manner. Sometimes ordinary folks like me can only watch and admire. Oh wells. Haha. Perfect reward for the hardwork the team had put in for the opening half an hour.

With the team severely depleted especially in the wings department, our breaks on the counter were left to a certain zl who made all the running in the world and also won probably 90% of the aerial challenges. Having had a topsy turvy season thus far in terms of performance, he answered his critics in stunning fashion today with a never say die attitude.

Eventually after much ping pong-y football where we sat back and absorbed the pressure before supernova finally resorted to long balls to bombarde our defense, our 2nd goal finally came after dinietov, ahcool and law had all missed chances to tie the game up with chances earlier in the 2nd half.

In a period now known as Chamakh time... 8 minutes was all it took for ron-aldo to make an impact. Out-hustling the tiring supernova defenders and also causing them all sorts of problems in his special 8 minute cameo, roo-naldo found himself on the scoresheet with a goal that was made in RON-land. Collecting a ball played over by syafiqo, our born-again striker took control of the ball on the bounce with a flick of the outside boot and raced clear. Showing the awareness of chamakh from his time in the french league (heh-heh), he flicked the bouncing ball past the covering centerback who could only clatter him in the face, body and everywhere-else due to momentum. *Penalty* and a subsequent 2nd yellow for the defender. Holding onto his partially disfigured face, ron-nie smashed the resulting opportunity from 12 yards with as much confidence as I would with my heading (n u guys know how 'good' it is) straight down the middle. Thank god it rippled the net. 2-0 and for us, game set and match.

MOTM: Law. The title says it all. In a game which everyone played their roles well, aside from dinietov who hustled well and scored a delightful goal as well, law was another stand out who characterized our team ethic. Hardwork and raw determination. The only thing missing was a goal to place the icing on the cake but i guess the man doesn't do cliches. O well. Class performance in a day where we needed our big players to stand up and be counted. And im glad to say that the team's performance was a starry starry one.

We showed the will to work hard and cover each other's asses and also to sacrifice for the team. Vic got himself injured while trying to ensure that dinie's sublime dink was truly in the back of the net, law got himself a mild headache for his mammoth efforts in winning his aerial duels and dinietov got more than he bargained for with a cut tongue from a rather unsavory event that proved to be the only anomaly of the day. Those were the special cases, but in my eyes... Once again we played as a team. Ultimately at the end of each match day, achieving that is probably the most satisfying aspect of our weekly rendezvous on the field. Rest well my beloved team of warriors. Another biggie awaits us at 5pm next saturday at Jurong Stadium. A classic game probably. And im licking my lips at that. Cheers boys!
