1/1/11... Not sure what the superstitious ones would say about such a date but to me, it meant absolutely nothing. Just another day in terms of pre-match prep and etc.
However, things started to go downhill from the moment i stepped out of my house. 6 of us excluding ahcool were trapped at pasir ris station awaiting our kind driver for the day to hitch a ride to jurong at 230pm. Sorry peeps, im guilty as charged for being eff-ing late. And of course, mother nature decided that she needed to play a part in our day's proceedings as she started to bawl the moment we hopped onto ahcool's car.
If u have already read our match report on the espzen website, the result of 0-0 will stand and thus... 1 point is obtained. Im not going to read too much into our poor start to the game as honestly speaking, players were being played out of position and it was one big mess in my opinion.
The supernova team was big and strong and of course they played a brand of possession football that at times was difficult to stop. Difference this time as compared to our horror show against BWB was a possible lack of penetration on their part, and also us keeping it tight in midfield, thus limiting the chances they had on our goal. Perhaps against the run of play, our incisiveness in attack almost put us a goal up as returning goal machine, Juf flicked on a header for Jason who was filling in on the left of midfield, to burst onto. Through on goal and with the goal at his mercy, a combination of the terrible weather conditions as well as a sudden lack of concentration saw him fluff his lines. Unfortunate.
We had 2 other chances on counter attacks as Ronald missed from just outside the box with the keeper once again in no-man's land as well as Vic only succeeding in shooting straight at the keeper after a series of 'you shoot- no...you shoot' involving our attackers.
So the half ended with the teams deadlocked at 0-0. To be honest, aside from the late challenge on me (no comments on this from anyone pls =) ), the next most exciting thing in that 9 minutes of the 2nd half was the lightning that struck just outside the stadium that saw several players dive to the ground instantaneously.
Well, the game ends with us obtaining a point in a game that I personally felt could have swung either way in the 2nd half. 1 point and another clean sheet isnt the worse result in the world and against opponents whom i believe have the quality to be right up there come the end of the season, this point could prove to be vital. For the guys who had miserly minutes today, cheer up. Yours truly had 15 minutes on the pitch in all and i spent 5 of it rolling on the ground as well.
There will be more in the coming weeks.
MOTM: Jason. He was full of running and the penetration he provided from the left of midfield gave us options in an otherwise tight 1st half. Of course, he returned to his day job midway through the half and subsequently turned in a sufficiently solid game. Cheers and well done Jason. Although if u had knocked that early chance in, it would have been a happier new year for all of us. No worries, we will be back soon.
