YSOSRS 4 Retador 2
(Ron, Juf x2, Izwann)
Apologies to one and all as this report is finally churned out after much procrastination.
In light of recent complaints that match reports have not necessarily reflected the efforts of team members during games, yours truly will attempt his very best in order to recognise the hard work put it by players on the pitch. Heh. Truly hope my best is good enough yo.
Anyhow, 4-2 was the eventual result but it really should have been a whole lot more comfortable. A 17 men squad for the jokers against a bare 11 of Retador who were no where near the formidable side from past seasons.
To the game! And the 1st 20 minutes was all about the missed chances the jokers conjured but could not finish.
1-0: It was left to a swift breakaway that saw a rampaging El Capitan burst forward ala Phil Jones? (Not sure if he would be liking that comparison). Rather fortuitously receiving a loose ball in the penalty box after some extensive pin ball action and blessed with his inspiring lucky boots that was said to supposedly bring us victory in the last outing against Stamford, Ron powered the ball home to put us a goal to the good. Yeeehaaa.
2-0: A returning son. A goalscoring legend for the jokers. And he jolly well made it a fairy tale return as he reacted fastest to a cross and slammed the ball past a bewildered keeper. 2 minutes or so upon coming on. Stuff of dreams.
HT and the talk was about how we were playing well without showing sufficient clinicalness in front of goal. The front 3 of Dinie, Juf, Yas, Mimi, Izwann and Rudee were tearing about our adversaries on the day, yet the sharpness in front of goal was uncharacteristically lacking considering their past exploits.
3-0: Thankfully the team talk worked it's magic and it did not take us too long before Izwann broke away and sent a delightful lofted through pass over the Retador backline that had Juffie boy scampering after it with genuine enthusiasm. Showing a delightful turn of pace that made his big ass look small, he was able to calmly side step the onrushing goalkeeper before tapping the ball home into an empty net. A brace and we were looking oh so comfortable.
Our backline looked imperious as the likes of Ron and Hafiz plus Khai formed a defensive triangle that was ablely flanked by the likes of Eugene, Farhan, the ever buzzing Eric as well as the returning Amin.
That was till complacency set in and we soon conceded a soft goal as the team went to sleep. 3-1 with 10 minutes to go. Surely not??
Well it got worse as the Retador players showed belief and gave themselves a glimmer of hope. A quick counter that had the jokers backline tangled in a heap of their own legs. 3-2 with minutes to go and all of a sudden the edginess crept in.
4-2: Thankfully, we put our foot down and started showing composure instead of madness to get another goal. Simple short passes that had the Retador players moving in order to retrieve it. One such move saw our cockroach man break away down the left before he danced in-field and unleashed a rocket of a shot into the top right hand corner.
Walah. Making life difficult for ourselves but on the day, the entire unit did oh so well in earning a priceless 3 points. Cheerios to the likes of Hafeez, Syafiqo, Elfi and Jason who slogged hard in midfield against a competent Retador engine room. Lets go lets go boys.
Onwards to next week!
