Only Just. Priceless 3 Points

Bendemeer Sec Sch, 1500 Hrs

YSOSRS 5  Stamford 4

(Alvin, Mimi, Izwann, Dinie, Ubai)

The talk at the start of the week was all about how Stamford who have proven to be quality opponents and potential contenders for the crown all season long, had meekly conceded a walkover against fellow contenders St Andrews just last weekend. There was further word from a source that Stamford were looking to bring a strong side to the game yesterday. An epic encounter was in store as the Jokers looked to the finish line of the season with great anticipation.

Yet at 320 pm yesterday, Bendemeer Sec was surrounded with an air of uncertainty. A mere 6 stamford players were present whilst the pink rangers paraded around wondering if a game was to go on. After much calling, hustling and wondering, the game went on with 11 against 6. For the first 5 minutes at least. Any league organisers reading this now... I guess u could call for a walkover and award us a 3-0 win but hey, it doesn't really exactly matter now does it.

1-0: The 1st 5 minutes saw Stamford as expected, content to sit back and pass the ball around. Yet the jokers showed some genuine quality in the final third by pressing hard and then finishing with aplomb courtesy of new boy, Alvin. A brilliant goal to set the ball rolling.

2-0: It took us till the 15th minute and with Stamford up to 10 men now to finally double our lead. Once again, Stamford overplayed at the back and it was Mimi who found himself sometime on the edge of the box yet still with some work to do. The boy however proceeded to make light work of the situation as he produced a sublime chip over the despairing jump of the keeper and into the back of the net. Fawesome~

3-0: It didnt take long as the jokers were rampant at this stage and this time round our cockroach man Izwann nipped the ball off his defender and went out to finish from an acute angle, in off the post. Smashing goal and few could argue that we were seemingly heading for a huge win today.

Cue the moments for madness as we so often seem to do. 3-1 at HT when we conceded a sloppy goal.

The 2nd half kicked off with the jokers looking to pile on the pressure and... well nvm. We conceded yet another to start the jangling of nerves. Madness as I would put it with the boys showing a sluggishness that was uncharacteristic of our play. 3-2.

4-2: Parity was restored when AhCool who was causing all sorts of trouble for the Stamford backline, went on another direct pacey run that had his markers in a heap of tangled legs. He then calmly set it up for the onrushing Dinietov who produced a rocket of a shot that hit the opposite top corner. Simplicity in the way it was done but it was anything but.

5-2: Once again, the smiles were back on our faces as we settled into a rhythm. There was even time for a splendid burst through the middle by returning son, Ubai who ran the half of the pitch before exquisitely showing how it was done with a calm finish. Thank god for this goal though as it would prove to be the winner later. 6 minutes to go and we were cruising.

Cue the moment for madness again as we conceded one immediately from the kick off as their nifty midfielder danced his way past, at least 5 players before scoring from a fucking unlikely shot.

Just to make things a tad more interesting, their bald playmaker scored an absolute cracker 3 minutes later to set up a grandstand finish that thankfully never quite materialized.

FT: 5-4 as the jokers claim a priceless 3 points, but only just.

There were numerous occasions during the moments of madness in which Khai had to produce stunning one on one saves in order to earn us these 3 points. Kudos to the lad for that. Furthermore, a special mention as our search for the one penalty taker goes on. Hafiz was the unfortunate one to miss a penalty at 2-0 so... Yeah. Another one bites the dust.

Anyhow, well done and let's aim to finish the season on a high.
