Stuff of dreams

Marina Bay Floating Platform, 2000 Hrs

SUFI FC 3 St Andrews Society FC 1

(AhCool x1, Mahdi x1, Alan x1)

Well guys, what more can I say. The scoreline speaks for itself and the view surrounding the venue was certainly breathtaking. Fantastic night and for me personally, a welcome break from my exam week. Hopefully I can summarise the events on the night with less than a thousand words. Haha.

MBFP was the venue which hosted the friendly game between the SUFI boys and our scottish counterparts, St Andrews. It has to be said that our opponents looked good although oddly enough, in their Argentina-like jerseys. The game promptly kicked off at the stipulated time with the SUFI boys having had more than enough time to have a feel of their surroundings and to also let their nerves settle. A midweek game, an 8pm kickoff and a stage perfect for what felt like a champions league final night. Awesome.

SUFI kicked off with Allan in goal, HG, Hizam, Huijie and Jason in defense, Rudee, Syafiq, Ws, Law and AhCool in midfield and finally with Dinietov up front. In truth, the early proceedings belonged to SAS as they bossed possession and attempted to stamp their authority over our rather timid looking boys. Passes went astray and communication was lacking as it seemed as if the boys were hit with a bout of stage fright. Well, thank god that the team gradually snapped out of it and started to threaten particularly with our pace on the flanks. It could be said that our goal came against the run of play as Rudee the assist machine found created just enough space on the right to whip in a devilish cross that teased and tormented all in the middle. What a playeur. Just like how they always find their targets, our casanova's cross found the head of AhCool who once again showed his awesome BALANCE by heading the ball into the top left hand corner. 'That was the only spot in the goal that he could have headed it to score and he did. Sweet!' - Yas or someone behind me said. 1-0 was how it ended at the half and I have to say that the guys in the first half fought hard for the cause of the team and though much of the battle was in the middle, the efforts of you guys wore down our opponents that made it easier in the 2nd.

The 2nd half finally kicked off with Phileo in goal, Kass, Ronald, Hizam and Alan in defence. AhCool, Mahdi, Mok, Law and Yas were in midfield with Juf up top. Once again, as if stage fright had returned for a second bite at the cherry, an inexplicable mistake led to SAS equalising within a minute of the restart. A bitter pill to swallow for the SUFI boys having done well to keep it tight thus far.

With our opponents tiring as time ran down, the loudest cheers of the night soon came about as our latest signing, Mahdi waltzed his way past a couple of challenges and despite being uber left footed, he rifled the ball home from just outside the penalty box with his right peg and in the process leaving the keeper grasping at air. 'You can expect more of such goals from me ;) ' - The not-so-humble after match chat with the man. What a goal though. 2-1 with 15 minutes or so to go. And as the cliche goes, it takes two to tango... Haha and although I know the application of the cliche leaves much to be desired, the younger Alan who is now the unofficial gay partner of Mahdi, decided to replicate the efforts of his partner. Picking up the ball from just inside the opposition half, the left back went on a direct run as SASFC backed off. With the frame of the goal looming larger, our youngling unleashed a stinging drive that nestled into the back of the net before the keeper could move. Same spot and same end result. Well of course, a couple's embrace between our lovely gay couple soon followed and it drew a close to a love-filled night at the MBFP for the SUFI boys. (This is the pt where all you readers go AWWWWW)

Man of the Match: I would have given it to myself if I had thicker skin but unfortunately, nah... Well so the man who stood out the most was definitely the latest magician to join our ranks, Mahdi. The deft touches and of course, the finish for the goal capped off a fine performance for the man. Kudo's to you mate. And no acting shy please. 0.0

Gaffer's Thoughts: This is how we roll peeps. It was a decent performance but perhaps more importantly, a thoroughly enjoyable night. Our opponents were loud and brash but at the end of the night, handshakes were exchanged and it was really heartwarming to see. That is what footie is about. A special mention to ahcool who continues to score goals by the bucket loads. I'm pretty sure PowerBalance will be contacting u soon to be the new face of their product. Some player he is.. Oh and take care of that strain Dinie, no zouking around for the moment. We need u this sat! I would also like everyone in the team to chit chat more with the new guys in the team aite. With time, just like how emotionless Huijie has bedded in so well, players like Mahdi n Alan will also be doing likewise. Oh, and one final mention to all the family, friends and girlfriends who turned up for the game to support your loved ones. For the 1st time ever, i believe we had a record number of supporters. Your cheers were heard on the field and I must thank you guys and girls for that. Sweet! So onwards to the serious stuff as we begin our maiden journey into ESPZEN. Lets look to do well starting this week guys. And for those who do not know, check the espzen links for our fixtures and the teams in our division. Everything is up there. Cheers and cya guys this sat!
