This is long overdue. This week, we feature Wong, our rampaging winger. Wong is the ultimate athlete, the Frankenstein of sports. He has the powerful built of Brock Lesnar, the cannon-like arms of Rory Delap, the lightning acceleration of Asafa Powell, the thunderous shot of Stevie Gerrard, the nimble footwork of Joe Cole. With his wide array of weapons in his arsenal, he has brought numerous contributions on the attacking front. Just imagine the psychological trauma he induced to the opponents when they conceded 3 goals just from his throw-ins alone. No sane person would want to stand on the opposing side of him. Maybe except his buddies from CD, who are always the first to diss him and his antics. Sadly, he will be leaving us very soon for down-under. You will be missed, Wong!
Hi, Wong. How are you?
I’m doing well. I could do better if Syafiq knew how to pass properly! Haha.
We heard that you are leaving Singapore. When will you be back?
I’ll be leaving this coming Sunday. I’ll be back on the 13th of August!
Okay, let’s talk football now. What do you think of the team so far?
I’m very proud of the team so far. We’ve been playing some good football lately, especially in our last match against SOS. We proved that we could attack together as a team and most importantly, fight till the final whistle.
We’re sitting rather precariously in third and the following match-ups will be crucial in determining our title hopes. How do you think the team will cope in your absence?
With Law, Rudee, and Madhi covering the wings, I’m sure these 3 will continue bombarding the flanks and grabbing the goals. Also, my absence will finally allow Law to take his place on the left wing. It’s mine when I come back though! Hahaha.
We will certainly look forward to your return. Do you feel that you are working well with the guys? Are there any areas that you think the team can work on?
I look forward to coming back as well! In terms of teamwork, I think we can do much better when it comes to moving the football around. Sometimes I feel that we don’t pass fast enough and this has led to a lot of wasted opportunities.
I’ve been dying to ask you this. How did you manage to throw so hard? You have some serious biceps there!
The truth is, Rory Delap is my Father.
Can you describe your style of play?
I believe my greatest strength is being able to bring the ball forward myself. I love to dribble and create space not only for myself, but also for my teammates. I also love taking defenders on and leaving them flat-footed once I beat them.
Which professional football player would you compare yourself to?
I’d consider myself a hybrid between Rory Delap and Aaron Lennon. Sorry ah no shame. Hahaha.
Which team will you be supporting for the World Cup?
New Zealand. I always support the underdogs. I’ll be betting $5 that they win the World Cup. Haha.
Okay, just some random question to end this. What is your stand regarding global warming? Is it real, or is the earth actually experiencing global cooling?
Well if you look at the colour of Syafiq’s skin, global warming has definitely done some damage there. Haha on a more serious note, global warming is never going to end and it’s only a matter of time before this earth becomes one huge fireball!
Sorry Fiq, no offence. You’re still my best malay friend from Innova Junior College who use to pretend he has a girlfriend.
