Thunderveluboomquesi 2 YSOSRS FC 2
(Wong x1, Juf x1)
Fu Chun Secondary School, 1500 Hrs
YSOSRS FC returned to league action after a 2 week exam break coming on the back of our stunning come-from behind victory over kamago'z. The belief was that the break definitely was not going to be favourable for us but hopefully the adrenaline would carry us through with a decent result in the end. The stage was set as Fu Chun Sec played hosts to both TH and YSOSRS FC. Based on reports from sources, our opponents were an excellent attacking side and we were definitely aware of the pre-match hype over certain players from their side.
The game kicked off with the boys in blue pushing forward from the word 'go'. The game plan was simple, to push forward and pressure our opponents with the aim of obtaining an early goal. A couple of half chances fell our way, however the finishing could not match the build up play. Gradually, TH got their act together and began to string passes. They almost found the net on not one, but 2 occasions, however lady luck shown down on us as they spurned both chances. The goal that we craved however, came soon after, as a quickly taken free kick by zhengliang sent juf sprinting down the right. He danced his way passed his marker before sending a tentalising ball across the penalty box, one that he would have been glad to be on the end of. The ball broke for an unmarked wong who had sprinted forward to support play. There was only to be 1 conclusion as wong clinically headed the ball pass the keeper to put us 1-0 up. As soon as the whistle was blown for the goal, play was also brought to a halt as lightning began to flash across the sky.
Thank god for all, the lightning soon cleared which meant that play could resume. Despite that, the rain never ceased as it came down even harder. Conditions were tough but both sides soldiered on. We knew that TH who had been having the lions share of possession, but did not seem to have the luck on the day to finish us off in the final third, were going to continue coming at us in the 2nd half. However, a combination of complacency and plain unluckiness contrived to kill us. We conceded twice, one to an unfortunate own goal by our captain who could do no more in that phase of play and then to a dipping lob/cross/shot which arrowed just under the bar, beating phileo in the process. 2-1 down with 10 mins to go. Our heads hung and for the 1st time in our short 4 game history, defeat beckoned.
Once again, the desire to never give up kept us going as we poured forward in search of an equalising goal. This time round, Juf who had been on the periphery in terms of goal mouth action for most of the game, sprang to life and was quickest to react to a flick forward by dinie. He proceeded to nonchalantly lob it past the on-rushing keeper as well as the 2 converging centre backs and into the back of the net!! 2-2 with only minutes to go! Back from the dead right at the end! And so it finished as treacherous conditions and a tough opponent made it a difficult game which we came through with a point.
Some thoughts:
1) The game was tough in that we were struggling to shake off the rust from 2 weeks of rest and being a new team, momentum is what we need most at the moment. No worries guys, think of it as a good point for we made it through without defeat despite not being in the best shape. Apologies for my sucky performance today, plenty of rust to shake off personally too.
2) It is time to talk to each other more. There was little communication amongst players and as hard as it is to swallow those goals that we concede through unfortunate circumstances, we have to keep our heads up and keep on playing. We did it once against kamago'z and we eventually came back again today. Believe in the team-mate alongside you. If we do not trust each other, it shows in our game play and we will struggle against more organised opponents. We have all the components to be an excellent team, we just need to learn and adjust to each other style's of play.
3) Let's take this result positively and build on it over the next few weeks. Cheers to all who turned up.
Team:

Mok, Lq, Syafiq, Zl, Wong, Ws, Rudee
Dinie, Juf
My man of the match: Syafiq (Dominant in midfield again as he swallowed up all aerial challenges and his neat touches on the ball got him out of tight situations more often than not. Unlucky that his domineering performance was not rewarded with a win. Keep it going dude)
