YSOSRS FC 2 SOS 1
(Jufri x1, Law x1)
It is hard for a team manager to rejoice when we know that an important player for the team is down and possibly will be out for a while with a suspected knee injury. Optimism is the only possible way to go with at this point of a time. For those who have no idea, Jasmond was hacked down and he twisted his knee in an awkward way during our hard fought game. It is not nice for me to see a fellow team mate crumble in agony and it is even worse when it is reminiscent of my own injury in the past. Hopefully it goes well for u dude. I will specially dedicate this victory to you! It's not as if u are dead or anything, it's just not nice knowing the possible extent of the injury. Until the injury is confirm, we will remain optimistic that u will still have a part to play for this season.
Back to the details of the game:
I was pleasantly stunned to see that Sons of Selarang had indeed called for SOS and actually roped in a fair majority of guys from renowned A division powerhouses, Meridian Junior College. To be honest, we had expected a fairly straight forward game but with the appearance of most of mahdi's college team in our opponents ranks, a tough game was expected.
1st Goal: Yaya Syafiqo who had been heavily involved in the midfield battle for large parts of the half sprang forward and 10 out of 10 for effort by law as his sliding tackle recovered a lost ball and he soon released our towering central midfielder with a perfect slide rule pass into the box. Syafiqo subsequently pulled the ball back and there waiting was our top scorer, Jufri to slot home a good move. The boys in blue were 1-0 up against our technically very strong opponents.
And so it finished 1-0 at half time with our tails on the up.
The 2nd half resumed and was largely played out in the middle of the park as the battle for control in the middle of the pitch continued. It has to be said that we had several excellent chances that fell in particular to our speed demon, Wong who had a forgettable day in front of goal. Despite that, we were comfortable and seemingly in control. An unfortunate sequence of events however led to SOS scoring an equalising goal that left the team deflated. Morale sank even lower when jasmond succumbed to the injury. We knew that we had to dig deep as we have done in our 1st 3 games and once again attempt to snatch a goal from somewhere.

And it duly came, 5 minutes from time.
2nd Goal: A long punt by Phileo that was meant for the towering frame of Dinie somehow bounced over both the magician and his marker. The onrushing law who had made an excellent run from the left, anticipated contact with the keeper who was rushing off his line, but still bravely nodded the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net. Excellent stuff. And right at the death again! Knowing the quality of our adversaries, the goal and then the win felt even sweeter than our initial few hard fought victories. And so it finished 2-1. Why-so-SERIOUS!
My Man Of the Match: Law. He was involved in most of the major parts of the game and what was not mentioned was the memorable lung bursting run from our own penalty box and into the opponents box with the opposition keeper chasing back to no avail. Characteristic of the man and definitely worthy of the award today.
Comments:
1) I applaud the whole team. Everyone who came played a major part. The knocks and all that we took were for the team. Thanks man peeps!
2) I am actually more mentally exhausted than physically because of the emotional rollercoaster that we faced today. Even though we had to dig deep once again, have faith that some team will be on the end of a rollicking from us soon. The form and class that we have been showing in our friendly games will be reflected on our league result soon.
3) Special mention to Jufri for not only his goal, but his self-lessness to play in midfield when needed despite carrying an ankle injury for large parts of the game.
4) Once again, we won and got another 3 points. But do know that we have to rally together and help each other out especially when the going gets tough. Whatever mistakes we make on the field are just part and parcel of the game. There is no need to get depressed over it. What matters is that we got through a titanic battle and emerged triumphant. Well done guys. Rest well for next week.
