no. 32

For our second interview, we feature Hoe Guan, Ysosrs Fc’s right-back. Hoe Guan is the epitome of Ysosrs, his demeanor not-so-seriousness personified. But once on the pitch, all docility is shed. (However this only lasts until the final whistle. Evidently.) He gets his job done with his hard and tireless running and last-ditch tackles, which is why the gaffer has always fielded him, albeit for one half.

Name: Ng Hoe Guan

Age: 22

Height: 176cm

Weight: 60kg

Position: Defense

Preferred foot: Right

Hi, Hoe Guan. Thanks for taking one for the team. How is your cheek feeling?

Haha the swell has gone down but my teeth still hurts!

The right-back berth is still widely contested among you, Farhan and Ernie. What aspects of the game do you think you have to work on in order to cement your place in the first-team?

I think the competition is good for us as a team because it keeps everyone on their toes and encourages us to maintain our level of performance on the pitch. On a more personal note though, I guess there’s room for improvement in my range of passing and body strength.

Having said that, your penchant for overlapping runs does separate you from the rest of the right-backs. But it also causes the problem of you being caught out of position at times.

Haha well then I guess my strength can become my weaknesses at times. I believe taking risks is an important part of the game, especially if it helps to push the opposition wingers back in their own half :)

How are you getting along with the other defenders? What do you think about Hizam, our captain?

Hmm to be honest, as a newly formed team, I believe that we will all need a certain amount of time to gel together. Yeah. It’s something we should all work on in these coming weeks.

Haha I think Hizam is a good captain because he is consistent and dependable in defense! But he needs to be more VOCAL!

Who were your football idols growing up?

Alan Smith! He was one of the reasons why I started supporting leeds united in the first place!

What do you think of our chances in the league?

Haha it’s still too early to tell! But from how we have played so far, it sure looks good :)
